Stanley Dean Farrer, 89, of Bremen, passed away at 3:35 pm, Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in IU Goshen Hospital. Dean was born on January 27, 1928 in Bremen to Tom and Minnie (Stillson) Farrer, Sr. On August 14, 1948 in Plymouth, married the former Lois Aukerman. Dean is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lois; their four children, Tony (Dianna) Farrer, Sr., Beverly (Larry) Balsley, Sr., Donna Grove and Melinda (William) Daily, all of Bremen; nine grandchildren, Tony (Beth) Farrer, Jr., Holly Farrer, Candace Farrer, Amber (Caleb) Martin, Larry (Angie) Balsley, Jr., Stacy (George) Younis, Amy Grove, Lindsey (Caleb) Andrews and Brooke (Eddie) Rodriguez; 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Pat of Bremen and Don of Elkhart and sister in law, Jeannette Farrer. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Tom, Jr., Jim, Jerry, and Richard and son in law, Jerry Grove. Dean proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was honorable discharged in 1947. He worked for Hooples Tavern for over 42 years before his retirement. Before Hooples, he worked for Studebaker and Odiorne’s. He was a lifetime member of the Wyatt Conservation Coonhunters Club, the Lakeville Conservation Club, Jim Beam Bottle Club of South Bend and the Bremen American Legion Post 191. He was an avid coon hunter, rabbit hunter and ice fisherman. Dean loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. As soon as they came in the house, they would jump in his lap for hugs and kisses. Then it was off to the kitchen for cookies or popsicles. He never missed an athletic event that the grandkids and great grandkids were involved in. Yes, his grandkids and great grandkids were the best at everything (he made sure to tell everyone), and he was the proudest grandpa ever. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm, Friday, August 18, 2017 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the funeral home with full military honors. Pastor Jim Morse will officiate. Cremation will follow and a private family burial will take place. The family prefers memorial to be made to the Wyatt Conservation and Coonhunters Club, 14551 New Road, Mishawaka, IN 46544 or the Bremen Fire Department, 123 S. Center St., Bremen, IN 46506.
