Henry Albert Hornyold-Strickland was the son of Alfred Joseph Gandolfi-Hornyold and Alice de la Chere.
He married Hon. Mary Christina Strickland, daughter of Gerald Strickland, 1st and last Baron Strickland and Lady Edeline Sackville, on 7 July 1920.
He was given the name of Henry Albert Gandolfi-Hornyold at birth.

In 1932 his name was legally changed to Henry Albert Hornyold-Strickland by Royal Licence.
