Thomas Herbert Barney Sr., of Ashland, Kentucky, left this earth to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Tom was born on May 26, 1929, in Greenup, Kentucky. He was the second born out of thirteen children to the Elder Henry Barney and his wife Bessie Ratliff Barney. He worked his whole life to provide for his family. He started working early in his adolescent years and stayed with it right up to the point where he physically couldn't any longer. He was also an avid farmer and deeply enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, Tom was proceeded in death by his wife of 43 years Melba Mae "Midge" Thomas Barney, who has been waiting for him at the gates of heaven for 30 years, and his daughter Shirley Barney. Also proceeding him in death are his siblings: Matthew Barney, Delores Barney, Bernice Tolliver, Herman Barney, Thurman Barney, Pauline Robertson, Irene Coffee, Henry "Junior" Barney, Eva Mae Arthur, and John Barney.
Those surviving Tom are his son; four daughters; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two brothers . Tom was also survived and loved by a slew of nieces, nephews, and all of their children and grandchildren as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky by Rev. Jack Edwards. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in a private service at the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Kentucky.
