Western Frontiersman, Indian Scout, Author

William F. Drannan was born on the Ocean during his parent's voyage from France to America. They settled in Tennessee. At age 4 he was orphaned by a cholera epidemic. He was then raised by a man named Drake. At age 15 he set out on his own and into an adventurous life. He was taken under the wing of kit Carson and became an Indian scout among many other things. He wrote two books about his life: THIRTY-ONE YEARS ON THE PLAINS AND IN THE MOUNTAINS; or, LAST VOICE FROM THE PLAINS. An Authentic Record of a Life Time of Hunting, Trapping, Scouting and Indian Fighting in the Far West. Also the sequel to this book: CAPT. WILLIAM F DRANNAN, CHIEF OF SCOUTS.

Married Sarah Margaret Davis Brotherton April 4, 1874

Married Mary E. Street Hayes 24 May 1893 Bozeman, Gallatin, Montana she was the daughter of J.H.D. Street and Emily Burnett. The marriage license list his parents as John Drannan and Rebecca Brown.

Married Harriet Lovilla Cooper 16 Dec 1899 - Chicago, Cook, Illinois. This marriage was annulled about April 1900. She stated he had deceived her by saying he had a ranch in Utah. She later found he was destitute.

Wife at the time of death was Belle H. Drannan. Unknown where she relocated to or died at.

Also believe he was possibly married to an Annie (unknown).

September 19, 1880 Census of Carlton, Oregon Drannan, age 47, farm laborer, born in Tennessee, father and mother born in France, married to Annie Drannan age 42 father born in Tennessee mother in Virginia. 8 year old Nellie Harrison Annie’s daughter lives with them.
Perhaps her daughter's last name was Annie's last husbands name if she had one or maybe it is her madian name. I find no marriage record in Oregon, Nevada or California for William Drannan and an Annie.
