He was first employed at Fairdale Farms in Bennington, Vermont, and then for five years at "Luke Homestead" in Walloomsac and finally, for 52 years, he owned Hy-Acres Farm in East Hoosick.
His memberships included the New York State Holstein Association, Farm Bureau, past board member of Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was named Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1972. Hy-Acres Farm received the "Rensselaer County Farm Bureau Beautification Award" in 1984. In 1987, he was awarded the "Dairy Farm of Distinction."
Survived by six children; a nephew; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters
