Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 44th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "faithful and meritorious services during the war". After the war he was commissioned into the United States Regular Army, serving as a 1st Lieutenant in 34th and 16th Infantry regiments. He died on active duty at Fort Riley, Kansas in July 1879.
