Salisbury-Walton Hoy Layfield, 98 of Salisbury, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at his home in the arms of his daughter, who adored him.

Jesus heard his cry for mercy, called his name, gently took him in His arms and safely took Walton to his heavenly home.

There to greet him was his precious wife, Ruby who he had missed so much since her passing on November 29, 2013. Walton died on their anniversary.

Walton was born near Snow Hill on August 17, 1916, the son of the late George Purnell Layfield and Lillian Mae Bowen Layfield.

He was predeceased by his older brother, Harold Purnell Layfield and his older sister, Helen Martha Layfield Davis.

Walton is survived by his daughter, Phyllis A. Vickers and her husband, Gary P. Vickers; his granddaughter, Stephanie A. McClellan and her husband, John M. McClellan of Salisbury; a great-grandson, Cody M. McClellan of Jacksonville, FL; a great-granddaughter, Mallory A. McClellan of Salisbury, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Walton graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1934, and furthered his education through correspondence courses. He was married on April 9, 1939 to the love of his life, Ruby Frances Carmean Layfield and they celebrated 74 ½ years of God's Blessings until her death.

As a young man, Walton worked for two years at Montgomery Wards , and from there he went to work for Dulany Foods for 27 years as a plant superintendent, then Human Resources Manager. Dulany Foods was bought out by Green Giant Foods and he worked for 7 years as Human Resource Manager. In 1973 he went to work in Human Resources at the Salisbury Complex of Perdue Farms. When Perdue bought all the Swift Company operations in Delaware, Walton was put in charge of both Salisbury and Felton Delaware operations. In 1983 Walton retired after ten years with the Perdue Company. After retirement he was called back and worked as a consultant in Human Resources and when Perdue purchased the Turkey business in Washington, Indiana he again helped for two years in Human Resources to staff their factory.

But most importantly, in 1938 Walton was saved and surrendered his life to God's guidance and care and became a member of the Church of God on St. Lukes Road. In 1944 the church moved to Salisbury and today is the Parkway Church of God of which he was a member and then to Crossroads Church of God in Fruitland, where he was faithful to God's service until his death.

Walton will be remembered as a kind, caring and loving, faithful, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and wonderful friend to many. He was never to busy for his family. He was a Godly man, and will be forever missed.

Thank you Daddy for loving us so unconditionally.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. The Rev. John Kalfayan, Rev. Philip Morris and Rev. Raymond Crowley will officiate. Interment will be private in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
