Charleston, Nov 1 - While Captain S B Avis was making a speech at Winifrede last evening he received a telegram announcing the death of his father, B B Avis, at Washington, D C.
Mr Avis was a native of Charles Town, this state, and was about 65 years old. He will be buried in Washington, where he has resided for the last 20 years.
Captain Avis left over the Chesapeake & Ohio railway last night to attend the funeral.
The sudden death of the Captain's father will necessarily compel him to cancel all his engagements for the present campaign.
It will be remembered that the father of T C Townsend died since the campaign opened, and Captain Avis is therefore the second to be thus bereft since the opening.
Whether or not Mr Avis' opponent, Hon Adam B Littlepage, will cancel all his speaking dates as the result of the Captain's bereavement has not been learned
