Samuel Melvin Barnard, age 87 years, died in Vancouver, Washington. Born and reared in the Mohawk, Indiana community, Mr. Barnard with his wife had been residents of Vancouver since 1908.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and had served as elder, trustee, deacon, and treasurer. He was also president of Vancouver Memorial Hospital Board from 1945 - 1954 and served as director for 25 years. He was also a trustee of the Oregon Blue Cross Board from 1948 - 1966 and president and director of Vancouver School Board from 1925 - 1931.
Mr. Barnard owned a wholesale lumber business in Vancouver for many years. He was a member of Mt. Hood Masonic Lodge 32, Post Commander of the Knights Templar; Royal Arch Masons No. 9 and member of Vancouver Commandery No. 10.
Survivors are his widow, Bertha H. (Johnson) Barnard and a daughter, Mary E. Barnard; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins in Vancouver, Washington and also in Greenfield and Mohawk Indiana communities. Mrs. Barnard is cousin to Miss Josephine Wilson of W. Main Street, Greenfield.
