Published in the Ithaca Journal on Dec. 30, 2016

Amy Suzanne "Suzie" Soyring, 88, of Ithaca, NY passed away on December 27, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 14, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND to the late Nora and Arthur Gronna. After graduating from the University of Iowa, she came to Ithaca to visit her sister, met and married Anselm Soyring in 1956 and settled in happily for the next 60 years.
She enjoyed a long career with Ithaca Public Schools, teaching in three of the elementary schools. Upon retiring, she then worked for the U.S. Census Bureau.
Throughout her life she was always active in the Ithaca community. She enjoyed meeting people of all ages and walks of life; sharing stories and playing songs on her hands. She never met a stranger---only a friend she didn't yet know.
In addition to her many friends throughout Ithaca and the world, she leaves behind her children Nancy (John Long) of Somerville, MA; Nora Rucker of Ithaca, NY; Anselm (Brenda Teaster) of Chicago, IL; Terry (Kaitlin Hascup) of Ithaca, NY; her beloved grandchildren Nathan, Kevin, and Aksel; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Anselm, sister Anne Robson, and son-in-law Jeffrey Rucker.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In remembrance, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Parish Food Pantry of Ithaca (113 N. Geneva St.) where she volunteered for many years.
An obituary was published in the Ithaca Journal from Jan. 4 to Jan. 6, 2017
