Emma M. Dow was the eldest daughter of Josiah Dow and Dorcas Allen Dow. She was a sister of Gen. Neal Dow. She married Neal Dennison Shaw of Portland, on Nov. 6, 1835. They had at least one child, Harriet E. Shaw, born in 1840.
She was originally buried at Western Cemetery, Portland, and later moved to the Dow plot in Evergreen Cemetery. Her stone, broken and fallen, is in back of the large Dow monument. It is visible in the far right of the monument photo.
