Death Yesterday of Mrs. H. J. Palmer
A widely known and esteemed lady passed away in Charlottetown yesterday in the person of Mrs. H. James Palmer. Death took place at her home, 14 Water Street, after an illness of about two months. She was eighty-four years of age.
Mrs. Palmer was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Church and of the Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of the I.O.D.E. and of the Provincial Council of the Girl Guides Association. At the time of her death she was also honorary president of the Charlottetown Women's Liberal Club.
She exemplified the finest type of Christian womanhood and enjoyed a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, by whom her memory will long be cherished.
Mrs. Palmer was the second daughter of the late Mr. Charles Palmer, K.C. Her husband, the late Hon. H. James Palmer, K.C., who died in December, 1939, was a former Premier of the Province and a son of Chief Justice Edward Palmer, one of the Fathers of Confederation.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by the following sons and daughters: Philip E., of the Palmer Electric Company; Harold L., Judge of the Probate Court, Charlottetown; Rev. Charles Palmer, in England; Helen, (Mrs. John Reay), and Adele (Mrs. H. K. S. Hemming), both of Charlottetown; also one sister, Miss Ethel Palmer, at present in Montreal, and two brothers, Robert E., of London, England, and William J., of Johannesburg, South Africa,to all of whom the Guardian extends deep sympathy.
