During World War I, Joseph was a Gunners Mate 1st class on the USS America and a Sheriff and Prison Guard with Erie County.

Joseph went on to marry Franciszka "Frances" Chmielewski and they had a Son, Raymond Joseph Rollek in 1924 and they were married until Frances passed away in 1938.

Dziadek, as his Grandchildren called him, passed away on November 13, 1970 in Buffalo, New York and is with his family in Saint Stanislaus.
