Sister John Patrick, GNSH, 93, died on Tuesday, June 21 with hospice care at home in her 67th year of religious life. Her ministry spanned 42 years in Buffalo. For twenty nine years she served at Holy Angels Academy as Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Administrative Assistant for Development and Director of Alumnae Relations. At D’Youville College she was Assistant Director of Development for thirteen years; for four of those years she also was a member of the Administrative Team for the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart.

A native of Buffalo, she was at various times also a Guidance Counselor, Administrative Assistant for Development and Director of Alumna Relations at Holy Angels Academy.

At D’Youville College she served as assistant Director of Development for 13 years and was a member of the Administrative Team for the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart.

Mary Patricia Russell graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1941 and attended Bennett High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from D’Youville, a master’s degree in education from Canisius College, and her law degree from the University of Buffalo

Before entering the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1950, she was employed by the City of Buffalo.

She was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Catherine Quinlan Russell. Sister John Patrick is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert E.., Catherine Mannering, Timothy E., Edward E., Brian M., James P., Patrick J., Ann Gornik, John W., members of the Grey Nun community and friends.. Her brother Edward and sister Margaret Russell predeceased her.

A wake was held at D’Youville College in Madonna Hall Thursday, June 23 and Friday June 24, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, June 25 at Holy Angels Church on Porter Avenue with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Kenmore, N.Y. Arrangements by Amigone Funeral Home, Inc.
