Louis was born Louis Muller. He came to Philadelphia as an infant. After the death of Anton Muller in 1900, he had to leave school at the age of 10 and get a job to help support the family. His mother married Thomas Drummond in 1902, and he and his sister Justine took their stepfather's last name. He returned to school, but left after eighth grade. His lack of education did not deter him, and he went on to launch Drummond Scientific Company, and through his work, he secured multiple patents and published an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Louis married Kathryn J. O'Rourke on November 30, 1912 at St. Alphonsus Church in Philadelphia.
In addition to the children listed below, Louis and Kathryn were the parents of Edward Drummond, who was born January 16, 1914 in Philadelphia and died January 24, 1992 in San Diego.
