Mr. Wright had a prominent role as a free black citizen of New York. He was repottedly born in Africa. He became a barber by profession. His great work in the abolitionist movement was carried on by his son, Theodore. R.P.G. Wright was active in the Freemasonry as the first known black member of St. George's Lodge.
