Neil T. Crosby

Kanab, Utah

On September 17, 2016, Neil Taylor Crosby, age 91, passed away. He was born in Kanab, Utah on September 4, 1925 to Luella Ford and Jacob Hamblin Crosby. He married his high school sweetheart, Emily Marie Morris, on May 24, 1946 in the St. George Temple after his return from World War II. After receiving his degree in pharmacy from the University of Utah, they settled in Kanab in 1951 and lived in the same home with the tire swing until his death.

Neil was committed to every endeavor he undertook - his family, his occupation, church responsibilities, civic duties, and local music productions. He was a dedicated home teacher, gospel doctrine teacher, bishopric counselor, ward and stake executive secretary, and high counselor as well as any other assignment requested.

Neil served as a medic in the US Army during World War II, which influenced his decision to become a pharmacist. He served as a city councilman and coordinated the gazebo performances for many summers. When it came to singing, he was always there for the Messiah productions and community musicals. His favorite role was playing Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof". He was willing to share his beautiful tenor voice and sang in at least 220 funerals. Neil dedicated countless hours at the only pharmacy in Kane County for many years, often extending in to the late hours.

Neil was known community-wide for his wonderful summer gardening. He was a faithful member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, serving as treasurer since 2009, giving up that office only 3 months ago. He was the recipient of the 2012 "Modern Pioneer" Award from the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.

The best example of his dedication was his loving care for his wife throughout her extended illness following cancer. She preceded him in death in 2009. Also preceding him was his daughter Janeil Simmons, grandson Neil Bryce Simmons, his parents, and all his siblings Maxine (Cal) Henderson, Sherman (Ella) Crosby, Jack (LaRee) Crosby, Nellie (Tom) Wheeler; and a son-in-law Chuck Stauffer.

Neil is survived by his daughter Marie Adele (Steven) Terry of St. George, son-in-law Forest Simmons of Portland, Oregon, daughter LouAnn Stauffer of Kanab, son Elgin (Nita) Crosby of St. George, son Sean (LaVonne) Crosby of Kanab, 28 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Kanab Utah Stake Center, 20 West Center Street. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:45 AM at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 69. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.

The family expresses their thanks for the care he received at the Kane County Hospital and from the staff at the Skilled Nursing Unit. We can never thank LouAnn enough for her devotion to Dad and his needs for the last 3 years.
