RESPECTED PIONEER WOMAN DEAD

MRS. MARY G. NETT DIED FRIDAY AFTER ILLNESS OF TWO DAYS

The Slow and solemn toll of the clock in the church tower on Friday evening, September 10th at 6 o’clock announced the sorrowful tidings of the end of the earthly career of one of Albany’s most respected pioneers. Mrs. Mary Gertrude Nett, for many years a resident of this village, passed to her eternal reward following an illness of but two days, caused by a stroke of paralysis, on Wednesday morning of the same week. Deceased having been a daily attendant of mass, returned to her home from church Wednesday morning apparently falling and under considerable weakness, and a short time after received the stroke which resulted in her unexpected death. While ill, she had been under the care of local physician, Dr. T. Watson and Miss Mary Nett, trained nurse recently of St. Joseph’s Hospital of St. Paul and every thought had been done to restore her health but was no avail.

Mary Gertrude Terres was born at Berburg, Grevenmacher Luxemburg, Germany on January 12, 1851 and was 69 years of age. In 1857 she, with her parents came to America and settled at Chicago until 1859 when they removed to Minnesota taking up a homestead near the present village of St. Martin (this county). In 1869 she was married to Peter Joseph Nett of that place where they continued their residence until 1885 when they moved to Albany where her husband engaged in the retail lumber business and also operated a grain elevator. Six children were born to them, five of whom survive, the oldest John dying at the age of 2 years. Her husband also preceded her into eternity in April 1912. Since then she has been making her home in the village here- her daughter Elizabeth who conducts a millinery store having made her home with her aged mother.

The deceased is survived by one brother, Mr. Peter J. Terres of St. Martin and four sisters: Mrs. W. F. Hilger of Roscoe, Mrs. John Lahr of Eden Valley, Mrs. Peter Marnzer of Humbolt, Saskatchewan, Canada and Mrs. William Mainzer of Strawberry Ridge, Pennsylvania. The children who are left to mourn her untimely loss are: Miss Elizabeth Nett, Math H. Nett and John Nett here at Albany, Miss Celia Nett of Minneapolis and Peter J. Nett of St. Cloud, besides a number of grandchildren.

In the death of Mary Gertrude Nett, the community losses a most devoted Christian, a kind neighbor and a loving mother, and her unexpected departure is mourning by a large circle of friends who have for years so favorably known her.

The funeral rites took place on Monday morning, September 13th from the Seven Dolors Catholic Church with solemn requiem mass. Fr. Anselm O.S.B. officiating. Interim was made in the local catholic cemetery, remains having been laid in the lot beside her deceased husband. The pallbearers were: Peter Kraker, Sr., John Wertin, Joseph F. Bier, Christ, Karls, Nic Loehlein and Jacob Krebs. The funeral was one of the largest in late years composed of friends of the deceased from nearly every village and city in the county and many outside points. May she receive her eternal reward which, thru her hardships in her pioneer years, and her devoted life career she has so justly earned.

Those out of town who attended the funeral were: Miss Mary Nett formerly of St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Paul; Sheriff Ben Behones, Math Nurenburg, Mr. and Mrs. John Terres, St. Cloud; Tom Schaefer and Mrs. Mary Dietrich of Sauk Rapids; Mrs. Bloomer of St. Joseph; Mrs. Joseph Schwankl and son, Wilfred, of Richmond; Mrs. Wenk and daughter, Olivia, of Richmond; Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Kneese, William James and Rose Hilger of Roscoe, Mr. and Mrs. John Lahr and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lahr, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Lahr, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lahr, Math and William Lahr of Eden Valley; Mr. and Mrs. John Nett, Mr. and Mrs. Math Kuhl, Mr. Math Thelen, Mr. and Mrs. John Thelen, Mr. and Mrs. Peter B. Terres, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Terres, Mr. and Mrs. Christ. Machtemers and family, and Joseph Gresser of St. Martin; Mrs. Raymond Adrian and Mrs. Hubert Thelen of Freeport; one brother-in-law, J.
