According to various sources, the birth year for Samuel Sweeney Hibbs was either 1806 or 1808. He was the son of Aaron Hibbs (born in Virginia) and Catherine Humphries (birthplace unknown). Samuel was born and spent his entire life in Adams County, Ohio, in the vicinity of the small settlement of Locust Grove, or in neighboring Scioto County. He was married twice. His first wife was Catherine Tener, who was born May 19, 1815, in Baltimore, Maryland, and who passed away in 1862. His second wife was Sarah Jones Mustard (1-30-1827 to 3-15-1908), a native of Adams County who may have been married once before. Samuel's children were: Alliniah (1832); Marquis de Lafayette (1833); Joseph Dewey (1835); Saloma Ann (1840); Sarah G. (1845); Lizzie (unknown); Rhuhama (1857); Henry Wilkins (1852); Samuel Milton (unknown); Elizabeth (unknown)(all children of Catherine Tener); and Mack (unknown), who was the son of Sarah Jones Mustard. I am uncertain as to whether Samuel is actually buried in Locust Grove Cemetery or whether he is buried in one of the small cemeteries in Brushcreek Twp., Scioto County, Ohio.

Update, April 2014: Received notification from a fellow Find-A-Graver that contributor Debbie J has photographed the entire Locust Grove Cemetery and found no grave for Samuel Hibbs.
