“Hiram Elliott Benson, 76, retired rural mail carrier, passed away at his home in Mooresville this morning at 8:30 o’clock following a prolonged illness.

Hiram E. Benson, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Benson, was born at Mooresville on March 22, 1872. He spent 14 years, from 1879 to 1893, with his grandfather Benson in Illinois and was educated in the schools of Galesburg. When Mr. Benson returned to Mooresville, he was married to Miss Susan Comstock at Mooresville. For the past seven years, Mr. Benson had lived with his daughter, Miss Lela Benson of 609 Clay Street, during the winter months and returned to his home place during the summer.

Surviving Mr. Benson are two sons, Ross O. Benson of Kansas City, Kansas and Marvin Benson of Richmond, Missouri.; two daughters, Miss Lela Benson of Chillicothe and Mrs. Russell Elsea of Cameron, Missouri; three brothers, Bill Benson of Southwest City, Missouri, Charlie Benson of Kansas City and John Benson of Breckenridge; two sisters, Mrs. Fawnie Gibeaut and Mrs. Sadie Ireland, both of Fresno, California; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Mooresville Christian Church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. The Rev. Kenneth A. Kunz, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Benson family lot in the Mooresville Cemetery alongside of his wife, who preceded him in death October 20, 1943.” The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, July 30, 1948
