Former Hastings resident Colleen M Brannigan, 78, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, in New Mexico.


Graveside Memorial Services will be Monday, May 23, 2016, at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date c/o Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home, Hastings.


Colleen was born December 4, 1937, in Hastings, Nebraska to Earl J and Linda C (Walker) Brannigan. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1955 and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Kearney State College, earning her degree in Comprehensive Social Sciences with an emphasis in history. Colleen worked as the aquatic director at the YMCA in Hastings for 18 years, and retired from Hastings Regional Center in 2000 as the activities specialist. She was a member of St Cecilia's Catholic Church, past member of Nebraska Historical Society, Adams County Historical Society, Illinois State Historical Society, and YMCA. Collen was inducted into Kappa Delta Phi and was an admiral in the Nebraska Navy.


Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Katherine as an infant, Marilyn Ransom and Patricia Francouer; and brother-in-law Ken Ransom.


Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Al Witte of Urbana, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr Lawrence and Joan Brannigan of St Louis, Missouri, Joseph and Isabelle Brannigan of Sacramento, California, James and Norma Brannigan of Seattle, Washington, Robert and Lori Brannigan of Dallas, Oregon, Don and Tory Brannigan of Santa Cruz, N.M.; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
