Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Caufield of Lacona last week received notifation that their son, Pfc Austin Fredrick Caufield, had died in an evacuation hospital in Korea on September 26, 1956. They were informed that the body was being held for autopsy to determine the cause of death and would be sent here later for burial.
Pfc. Caufield was on duty in the 44th Surgical Hospital in Korea when he became ill about a month ago, but his family have not yet learned any details about his illness.
In Army Since 1953
Austin Caufield was born in Pulaski April 13, 1934 and the family moved to Sandy Creek the following year. He attended the Sandy Creek Central school until he was 16 and then worked on farms near Mexico and was employed by the General Crushed Stone company when he was drafted in July, 1953. He received training at Fort Devens, Mass. and later at Fort Meade, Md., and in December 1953 was sent to Korea, where he served for 14 months. He returned home in July 1955; later re-enlisted and was returned to Korea in November, 1955.
He was a member of the Baptist church at Fernwood.
Survived by Parents
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Caufield of Lacona R.D. 2; eight sisters, Mrs. Lewis Wilder, Sandy Creek; Mrs. Ernest Dana, Lacona; Mrs. John Surprise, Sandy Creek; Mrs. Benjamin Egleston, Syracuse; Miss Katie Caufield of Pulaski, Miss Verna Kay Caufield, Judy and Donna Caufield of Lacona; and five brothers, James Caufield, Syracuse; Robert Caufield, Brewerton, Arnold, Fred and Peter John Caufield residing at home.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed

Body of Soldier Arriving Friday
SANDY CREEK — The body of Pfc. Austin Frederic Caufield,
22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Caufield, RD 2, Lacona, who died Sept. 26 in an evacuation hospital of the U. S. Army in Korea, will arrive Friday at the Weston & Woodard funeral home here.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. Military honors will be paid the young soldier by members of Cable Trail Post, Veterans of the Foreign Wars, Lacona, at his graveside in Riverside Cemetery, Pulaski, Saturday afternoon, following services at the Weston & Woodard funeral home at 2 p. m.
Taps will be sounded by Harwood Course, post bugler, and a
firing squad composed of post members will fire a volley over the grave. The Rev. Leland W. Webster of the First Methodist Church of Sandy Creek will conduct the rites.
