Christine Holland Anthony. Mrs. Browne died on Monday, May 24 after a brief illness. Born in Oklahoma City on December 18, 1916 to Albert Houston and Mabel Gordon Holland, Christine grew up in Enid, Ok. She attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1938. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Delta Delta, which she served as president, and was the honorary Cadet Colonel. Chris worked for O.G.&E. for five years as a home service demonstration agent. In 1945, she married Guy M. Anthony and together they raised six sons. Mr. Anthony died in 1991. Chris was active in numerous community activities and was a leader in the United Way, the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, Allied Arts, Nichols Hills United Methodist Church and Casady School Mothers C lub. She also served on the boards of World Neighbors, Bone and Joint Hospital, Mercy Hospital, University of Oklahoma Bizzell Library Society and the Oklahoma Heritage Association. In 1971, she was elected to the Board of Directors of O.G.&E. on which s he served for 15 years and continued as honorary member until 1993. She served on the Board of Nichols Hills Bank and in 1978 was elected Chairman of the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. She was one of the first women in t he nation to hold such a position. Chris was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1979 and received the Distinguished Service Citation from the University of Oklahoma in 1984. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Oklahoma City Univers ity in 1980 and was honored by the O.C.U. Library Society in 1992. In 1992, Chris married John R. Browne who survives her. She is also survived by six sons, Ross, Guy, Jr., Bob, Jay, Jack and Tom; four step-children, Bob Allen Street, David Street, John Browne, Jr. and Ann Dunker; her brother, Gordon Holland; twelve grandchildren and twelve step-grandchildren.
