BRYANT—Gretchen Joyce Alford Gardner of Little Rock, most recently of Bryant, passed away on October 24, 2015.

Joyce and her twin brother Boyce were born at home in Cove [Polk Co.], Ark., November 13, 1923 to Thomas H. Alford, former State Commissioner of Education under Governor Carl Bailey, and Ida K. Womack Alford. She graduated from Little Rock Senior High School (today known as LR Central High School) in 1941.

Joyce is preceded by the recent death of her daughter Cheryl Alford Gardner and brothers Dr. Dale Alford of Little Rock and her twin Dr. Boyce Alford of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Joyce loved her family and friends and was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock, Arkansas.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Dan Gardner (Karen) of Benton, Arkansas, grandchildren Natalie Ghidotti (Jason), Rebecca Green (John), Matthew Gardner, Jonathan Gardner, Ashley Wilson (Rusty) all of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mindy Lewins (Buddy) of Cleveland, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Corrine, Eli and Bella; sister-in-law, Mandy Alford of Pine Bluff; her nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.

A celebration of the life of Joyce Alford Gardner will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant, Ark. Pastor Dan Hauser of Christ Lutheran Church will be officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Little Rock, Ark....
