Prince. In English also called Charles. Of the Oldenburg Dynasty, he was the second son of King Gustav III and Queen Sophia Magdalene. He was created Duke of Smallands. His much celebrated birth put a stop, for all intents and purposes, to claims that his elder brother was not the King's son. His early death came as a great blow to Gustav who was said to become much less cheerful thereafter.

- Robert Herrick
