Swedish prince. He was of the Oldenburg Dynasty and Duke of East Gothland, son of King Adolph Frederick and Queen Louise Ulrica. Besides a brief and temperamental tour of service with the Swedish Navy, which resulted in him badmouthing his brother King Gustav III, he had little effect on the affairs of state. He was considered very good looking, but never married, though he proposed to noblewomen, actresses and Princess Augusta of the United Kingdom. His longest affair with ballet dancer Sophie Hagman went on with a few breaks for many years, and is alleged to possibly have produced a daughter named Sophia Fredrica.
