Vera Agnes (Starling) Knight, 92, of Gadsden, Alabama, died on March 8, 2016. She was born in Ensley, Alabama, on July 7, 1923 and later moved with her family to Gadsden, Alabama, where she met and married her husband, James Harold Knight. For 65 years, she was a member of Walnut Park Baptist Church where she was the longtime director of the Women's Missionary Society and the leader of the young women's missionary group, YWA's (Acteens). The church named a women's missionary group in her honor. For many years, she and her husband taught and served the youth in Sunday School and Training Union (BTU). She was a longtime employee of Sears where she worked in the auditing department. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years; daughter, Gail (Knight) Anderson; father, George Washington Starling; mother, Lannie Caster McWaters Starling; and three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sister, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral: 2:00 p.m. March 11, 2016 at Walnut Park Baptist Church.
