Maurice Farrar was born the son of a college professor in Massachusetts, and spent most of his boyhood years in Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin, then served in the Army, and return to U.W. to earn his MD and DMD degrees. He interned in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and later completed his residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1959 he established a private practice in Phoenix, and during his career he delivered over 10,000 babies, one of whom became his future daughter-in-law.

Maurie was a charming and fun person to be around. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather; an avid bowler and fan of the Phoenix Suns. As a holder of season tickets, Maurie was especially generous with invitations to games. In his later years he developed an interest in his family history, and he spent many years traveling to collect information and photographs of his ancestors. These travels put his in touch with many distant cousins, and they instantly became friends. Maurie was a brilliant man who had no arrogance about him, and he like everyone he met.

He passed away in his own bed after a brief illness, but he was content in his faith and his life's many accomplishments. To the end he was in good spirits, and directed his own medical care. He is fondly remembered.
