William Raymond "Bill" Carrico, 79, died unexpectedly February 14, 2016 at his home in Denton, Texas.

Bill was born January 11, 1937 in Port Arthur, Texas to James Leon "Kit" Carrico and Mary Lou Jones Carrico. He was the younger (but not smaller) brother to Charles James "Jim" Carrico and protective big brother to Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Carrico Hayes.

The family eventually moved to Denton, Texas where Bill graduated from Denton High School in 1955. He went to the University of Texas and played football for 2 years. He returned to Denton to North Texas State College in 1957. While at NTSC he played football, playing with the first integrated team in Texas college football and a short time for the Edmonton Eskimos, obtained his bachelors degree in education, most importantly married his sweetheart, Deanna Neace on April 5, 1957.

Bill and Dee spent the first year of his coaching career in Lufkin, Texas where their son James Jay Carrico was born. They returned to Denton where Bill taught one year at Denton Junior High before moving up to Denton High School where he was the shop teacher, drafting teacher and head football coach from 1963 until 1978. During those years his daughters Happy Carrico and Joy Carrico were born. In 1978 Bill became the athletic director for Denton ISD until his retirement in 1997. Bill loved kids and loved education, obtaining his masters in educationaladministration in 1969. He fought as a friend and brother along side Coach C. H. Collins to successfully integrate Denton ISD. He was guided by the principle, "if it's good for the kids, I'm for it."

Bill was honored many times in his life. He was a Williamson All-American in football and a member of the UNT Hall of Fame. He was named as member of the UNT All-Century Team. Recently, the new Denton ISD athletic complex will be named in his honor.

Bill had many things he loved to do. He volunteered for the Denton ISD grandparents and was a member of the UNT Hall of Fame selection committee. He loved hunting and will be sorely missed by all his hunting buddies. He loved to eat and had many many many eating buddies. He loved his tools and could never throw one away. But more than all that he loved people. He loved them in whatever way they needed to be loved. Whether we called him husband, Dad, Pawpaw, Uncle Bill, Coach, brother, or friend, to each of us he was our hero.

Bill was preceded in death by his father James Leon Carrico, mother Mary Lou Jones Carrico, and brother Charles James Carrico.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna Neace Carrico, son James Jay Carrico and wife Marla, daughter Happy Carrico, daughter Joy Carrico and partner, David Burgess, and granddaughter Jayme Kay Carrico. He is also survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Carrico Hayes and husband, Gary Hayes; sister-in-law Susanne Grace Carrico; cousins Elizabeth Shiers and Lynn Lewis; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews.
