American Artist. Ellsworth Kelly was an painter, sculptor, and printmaker associated with hard-edge painting, Color Field painting and the minimalist school. His works demonstrate unassuming techniques emphasizing simplicity of form, similar to the work of John McLaughlin and Kenneth Noland. Kelly often employed bright colors. Born in New York in 1923, he went onto serve in the United States Army during World War II where he was one of the key designers of the The Ghost Army which was used to deceive Axis forces. From 1984 until his death, Kelly lived with his partner, photographer Jack Shear, in Spencertown, New York.
