Albert A. Straka
AGE: 91 • Bridgewater
Albert A Straka, 91 of Bridgewater, departed this life on December 8, 2015 at RWJUH in New Brunswick. Born in Plainfield, he was the son of immigrants, the late Mike and Anna (Roscoe) Straka.
Albert served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed onboard LST 534 and survived the invasion of Normandy during Operation Overlord. Upon returning home, Albert graduated from Rider College, Class of 1950 with a BS in Accounting, where he lettered in basketball. He owned and operated Straka Realty in Middlesex and Dunellen for 18 years, then was a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service in Plainfield, NJ until his retirement. He was a member and quartermaster for VFW Post 6588 in Martinsville, a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 399 of Ortley Beach, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Martinsville. He had a passion for his family and his dogs, taking the dogs just about anywhere he went. He also had a love of football, basketball and harness racing, but mainly he had a love of America. He was a strong willed and opinionated man who wasn't afraid to share those opinions, on whatever the subject. He was a true patriot and a true American.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alicia (Brennan). He's also survived by his daughters, Monica Ann Straka of Hillsborough, Carol Lynn Straka of Bridgewater, his sons, Larry and wife Lavinia of Carmichael, CA, and son Martin of Hopatcong. He's also survived by his grandchildren Lorianne Straka of Bangor, PA Mathew Straka of Carmichael , CA as well as by his former daughter in law Carol J Straka of Bangor,PA. Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his brother Allen.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen, NJ. A mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 14 2015 t Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Martinsville, with burial to follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. Albert developed strong friendships with doctors and staff of the VA Hospitals in E. Orange and Lyons, as well as Johns Hopkins in Baltimore as they were nothing short of amazing as they helped him through his illnesses in the final years.
