Kathryn Loretta Hickel, 87, a long-time resident of Federal Way, Washington and more recently of Surprise, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

She was born June 15, 1928 at Olpe, Kansas, the tenth child of 13 children born to William P. and Katherine (Haag) Miller.

On November 27, 1947 she married Elmer Hickel from Claflin, KS. Shortly after marriage, Elmer and Kathryn moved to Wichita, KS where they started a family that grew to six sons. In 1968, Elmer and Kathryn moved the family to Federal Way, Washington. Kathryn had a wonderful life of many roles – successful career, household manager, loving wife, loving companion, loving friend, and loving mother who was always protective of her boys.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hickel; four brothers: Bert, Christian, Leonard, and William "Bill" Miller; six sisters: Clara and Louise, who both died in infancy, Bernadine Wiederhold, Eileen Burnes, Geneva Ney, and Helen Gilligan Bowman.

Survivors include her sister; Wilma Gerleman; sons: Gary (Mary), Roger (Karen), Brad (Carrie), Randy (Marianne), Greg (Lorrie), and Tim (Teri) Hickel; grandchildren: Angela Woudenberg, Christina Ackerman, Christy Lee, Thomas Hickel, Sean Hickel, Breanne Donovan, Brian Hickel, Claire Hickel, Morgan Hickel, Mackenzie Hickel, Jenna Hickel, Colin Hickel, Lara Tedrow, and Moriah Hickel; and great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Lucy Woudenberg, Lucas and Oliver Ackerman and Miles Donovan.

After Elmer's death in February, 1987, Kathryn met Bob Moore who became her companion until his death in 2013.
