Harry R. Sadler, Lt. Col. USAF Retired, 82, of Bend Road, New Wilmington, died the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at his residence.

Born on March 23, 1934, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, he lived most of his first 20 years at Hill Top Dairy, Indiana, a dairy farm owned by his grandfather, H.W. Stephens, and his uncle, William C. Stephens.

He graduated from Indiana Joint High School in 1952 and, in 1976 during his Air Force career, received a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He entered the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program in 1954 and was commissioned a 2/LT in 1955. He served as a navigator on KC-97 and KC-135 aircraft until 1967. Assigned various air operation staff positions, he maintained his aircrew qualifications and accumulated 10,000-plus flight hours. He retired in the grade of Lt. Col. in November of 1982. His military awards and commendations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and PA Meritorious Service Medal. He was a member of the Air Force Association, American Legion, and a life member of the Retired Officer's Association.

In 1993, he moved to Wilmington Township, Mercer County, where he served in various community positions, appointed by the township supervisors.

Two sons survive him; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Funeral services were held with full military honors at Oakland Cemetery in Indiana with the Rev. Dan Colmus officiating.
