Mary, who had grown up at 'Open Country', Murrumbeena, Victoria, firstly married John De Burgh Perceval (1923-2000) in 1944 however the marriage ended in the 1970s and she married secondly Sir Sidney Robert Nolan (1917-1992) as his third wife in 1978. Sir Sidney's second wife was (Violet) Cynthia Reed (1908-1976) whom he had married in 1948. Cynthia's brother John Harford Reed (1901-1981) established 'Heide' at Bulleen, Victoria with his wife, (Lelda) Sunday Baillieu (1905-1981) whom he had married in 1931. The Boyds' 'Open Country' and the Reeds' 'Heide' both became important locations in 20th Century Australian art.
