During the Spanish Civil War, Bergamin was President of the Antifascist Intellectuals Alliance. He worked for several newspapers and founded the magazine "Cruz y Raya". His works include "El Cohete y la Estrella", "El Alma en un Hilo", "La Voz Apagada", "Al Volver", "El Clavo Ardiendo", "El Pensamiento Perido: Páginas de Guerra y del Destierro", "La Claridad Desierta", "Esperando la Mano de Nieve", and "Canto Rodado". He died in Fuenterrabia (Ondarribia, Pais Vasco, Spain).
