Politician. A native of Johor Bahru, Malaysia, he served as the Malaysian Second Deputy Prime Minister under Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak, from 1970 to 1973. Educated under the name of Sekolah Bukit Zaharah, he received his degree from the English College in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and then went onto obtain a degree at the King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. In 1945, Rahman became the first Malaysian to obtain a Medical Doctorate from the University of Australia, in Melboune, Australia. In 1951, he entered politics and became the Vice President of the United Malays National Organization. In 1957, he was appointed as Malaysia's First Ambassador, a post he served in until 1959. During the 1960s, he served in many other positions including the External Affairs Minister, and Home Affairs Minister. He retired from politics in 1967, but returned in 1970 to serve as the Deputy Prime Minister. Rahman died of a heart attack while still in office.
