Newton Jarrell Hogg, son of Henry Jackson Hogg, Sr. and Ruby Hamer Hogg, was born on July 22, 1923.

He was raised in the Pleasant Grove Community near LaGrange, GA, where he attended Rosemont High School. He entered the University of Georgia in September 1940. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard a landing craft in the Battle of Normandy. His early service turned into a career, and he was assigned to various ships and shore stations across the country. In 1960, under a People-to-People Program sanctioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, he was aboard the U.S.S. Canberra for a Round the World Cruise. After serving twenty years with the Navy, he retired and returned to UGA, graduating in June 1964 in the new Georgia Coliseum. In September 1964, he was hired by the Callaway Gardens Horticulture Division in Pine Mountain, GA, to work with public programming. In September 1966, he entered Auburn University, earning a Master of Science. After graduation in August 1968, he became an extension agent in DeKalb County for the University of Georgia Extension Service, working with grounds and garden information for homeowners and commercial growers. He retired in December 1989. He was a member of the County Agents Association, UGA Extension Retirees Association, 4H Agents Association, and Epsilon Sigma Pi, and was a founding member of South DeKalb Rotary.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey LeDoyen Hogg; daughter, Suzanne Rowe (Richard); granddaughter, Margaret Anne Rowe; brother, Alfred Hogg; nieces, Laura Jones (Joe) and Sandra Hogg (Travis); and nephews, Matthew Hogg, Gene Hogg (Opal), and Jack Hogg (Sherry).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Graveside interment services will be held at 4:00 P.M. in Hillview Annex Cemetery, LaGrange, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University Heights United Methodist Church, 1267 Balsam Dr., Decatur, GA 30033. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
