Charles Murphy Bridgewater. Passed away 3-12-2008 in the comforting presence of his sister, Ida Mae Parks at Mars Hill Nursing Home. He was born 8-30-1934 the son of Milan and Frances (Davidson) Murphy. He was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater. Charles was the epitome of an Aroostook County man, he cared for his family, was a good neighbor, gave an honest day's work and found pleasure in the simple things in life. He enjoyed a well prepared meal, a well written story and the beauty of stamps and coins. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles. His wry humor and breadth of self acquired knowledge made him an engaging conversationalist. For many years Charles worked for Bradbury Bros., where he was a loyal and dependable employee. He brought these same traits to the US Postal Service, where he was employed as a rural mail carrier. He was forced to retire due to the progressive effects of MS. He was a graduate of Bridgewater Classical Academy. He represented the town for many years as a member of MSAD42 and Bridgewater school system boards. He used the postion to better ensure that the children of Bridgewater received the best advantages possible. He was an early champion for computers in schools. Charles was devoted to his family. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Ida Parks of Bridgewater, Mary Ann and Robert Sandefur of Virginia Beach, VA., Roger and Pam Murphy of Monticello, Guy and Jo Ann Murphy of Urbana, ILL., several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His family and friends are better for having Charles as an important part of their lives. Burial Smith cemetery.
