Frederick John Tregaskes, 77, of Templeton, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at home. He was born April 9, 1937, in Yatesboro, son of the late Russell W. and Myrtle (McGinnis) Tregaskes. He was retired from the Army after more than 24 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Dominican Republic and Vietnam and received two Distinguished Service Crosses, Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star with V, eight Purple Hearts, MSM, CIB and the Airborne Badge. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning, Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW, DAV, Keystone Paralyzed Veterans Association, Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission, 82nd Airborne Division Association, 101st Airborne Division Association, Distinguished Member of B Comp. 2 - 327 A.R.R. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, shooting, baseball and paralyzed veteran's wheelchair games. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Frieda (Olinger) Tregaskes; daughter, Mary Barbara Tregaskes, of Pittsburgh; daughter, Deanna Tregaskes-Gibson-Travers, of Virginia; son, Frederick J. Tregaskes Jr., of Templeton; daughter, Hannah E. Tregaskes-Moore, of Templeton; daughter, Kimberly A. Tregaskes Atherton, of Templeton; son, Jonathan M. Tregaskes, of Alabama; daughter, Patricia A. Tregaskes Wonderling, of Oklahoma; sister, Shirley Tregaskes Wonderling, of Tionesta; brother, William Tregaskes, of Papilion, Neb.; grandchildren, Cynthia Lee Gibson-Rieken, William Frederick Gibson, Jeffrey S. Travers, Frederick John Tregaskes III, Kimberly Elizabeth Tregaskes-Singleton, Jonathan Paul Tregaskes, Jeffrey Frederick Moore, Bradley Joseph Moore, Steven Andrew Moore, Hannah Aleaha Moore, Christophe Lee Atherton, Jason Allen Atherton, Lori Beth Atherton-Sherry, Teresa Marie Tregaskes, Sara Catherine Tregaskes, Trevor Martin Wonderling Jr., Christina Arlene Wonderling-Santos and Marcus Steven Wonderling; and numerous great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Tregaskes Cullen; two infant sisters; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Kittanning. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.
