Mary Alice Drinkwater, 80, a longtime Yakima resident, passed away Friday, February 27, 1998, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
Mary was born June 10, 1917, at Hauser, Idaho to Carl and Emma Walk. She was raised and educated Kennewick, where she graduated from Riverview High School in 1935. She later graduated from Kinman Business College in Spokane. Before World War II, Mary worked in the plumbing business of her future husband, Ben Drinkwater. The married October 31, 1942. While Ben served in the U.S. Army during the war, Mary ran their plumbing business.
Mary worked as a secretary for Pinball's and then for may years at Hansen Fruit and Cold Storage, from where she retired.
She loved flying and was a former member of the Eastern Washington Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, a women's flying organization. Mary deeply loved her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, music, reading, bowling and her volunteer work for television station KYVE. Most recently she enjoyed playing her violin under the assistance of friend and instructor Kathy Ackermann of Yakima.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Emma Walk and her husband Ben J. Drinkwater, on November 26, 1983.
Memorial services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Family inurnment will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at a later date.
Memorials may be made to KYVE or to the American Cancer Society of Washington, in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
