William H. Billy" Adams Sr. - Pueblo Chieftain - September 27, 1998 - William H. Billy" Adams Sr. passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 1998, after a long illness. Billy was the proud owner of West Peak Ranch in La Veta, and loved spending his time there and at his summer home in Rye. Golfing was his lifelong passion, as well as fishing, traveling and graphy. Billy was born on May 3, 1919, and graduated from Yale University, Class of 1942, and Colorado University School of Law. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Billy practiced law in Pueblo for more than 35 years. From 1974 through 1987 he served on the board of directors of the Colorado Golf Association. Billy also served as attorney for, and later, chairman of the board of The Pueblo Bank and Trust Company, which was established by his family in 1889. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Alva B. Adams Sr., and Elizabeth Matty Adams; his sisters, Ella Adams Uhl and Elizabeth Adams Berger; and his brother, Alva B. Adams. He is survived by his wife, Mary; and children, Bill (Karen) Adams, Charlotte Adams, Eleanor (Sandy Clark) Adams and Jane Adams; grandchildren, Greg (Leanne) Whitman, Mark Whitman, Beth Whitman and Will Wyant Adams. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Billy was blessed with many special friends throughout his life, along with a wonderful family of caregivers at University Park Care Center during his last few months. Mr. Adams will lie in state, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cremation, Almont Crematory. , Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, 2 p.m., St. Paul United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The family respectfully requests the omission of food and flowers. If friends wish, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of their choice in Billy's memory.
