Daughter of Russell and Harriet Stratemeyer Adams

PATRICIA ADAMS HARR
Of Chevy Chase, Maryland died peacefully on August 1, 2014 two days after her 93rd birthday, from complications related to cancer. In her final days, she was lively and humorous, as always, and was surrounded by her admiring children, grandchildren, other family members and friends. She is survived by her four children, Tim, Karl, Cathy and Amy, by five grandchildren, and by her sister Camilla Witman and her brother Edward Adams.

Patsy was a beacon of positive attitude for family and friends. She was generous and lived to serve others. She had a subtle but incisive sense of humor that captured life's ironies and the quirks of the human character. Her memorable one-liners, her dead-pan but hilarious chronicling of her acquaintances and experiences, and her sincere joy in the fabric of life will be impossible to replace. Patsy was very active in community and civic organizations, including the Smithsonian Women's Committee, where she served a term as Chairman, St. Johns Child Development Center, where she was on the board, and the Junior League, where she had leading roles in plays including Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. She was a member of the Sulgrave Club and the Chevy Chase Club.

Patsy was born at home in Maplewood NJ in 1921, daughter of Russell Adams, an investment banker, and Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, who ran the Stratemeyer Syndicate, which produced Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift and other adventure book series. Patsy graduated from Wellesley College and did volunteer work for the Navy and the Red Cross during WWII. On October 11, 1947, she married Karl G. Harr, Jr., who predeceased her in 2002.

Memorial services will be held on September 2, at 3 p.m. at St. Columba's Church, 4201 Albemarle St. NW, Washington, DC 20016. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organization that you think that Patsy would like.
