IRWIN, Jack Frederick Turman, 86, of Richmond, departed this life January 8, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Melton and Robert Raine Irwin; and his sisters, Louise Pace, Helen Thurston, Amelia Mullen, and Elizabeth Baroody. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Alfred Baroody; and his good friend, Walter Nicholson. Jack will be remembered for his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, but most affectionately for his love of acting, ballroom dancing, carousels and trips to New York. He owned and operated Bob Raine Dance Studios. He also acted in and directed numerous plays for the Chamberlayne Actors Theater, Dogwood Dell and the Empire Theater. Jack participated in the Richmond Nativity Pageant for about 60 years, most often as the Inn Keeper. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Emeritus Assisted Living for the friendship, care and support shown to Jack over the past year. A private graveside service will be held with interment in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to your local SPCA.
