Eddie was the son of Elven Ray Boyd & Neva Jean Payne. Elven & Neva never married. They wanted to but for some reason Neva's father wouldn't allow it so Neva gave Eddie her maiden name of Payne and he was raised by her and her parents (Elbert and Zelma). Eddie died at the age of 14 from an unknown muscle disease.

Edwin Lewis Payne, 14 Dies At Riley Hospital

Edwin Lewis Payne passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at Riley Hospital, Indianapolis, after a lingering illness.

He was born in Worthington*, November 7, 1952. He was 14 years old.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Neva Jean Reed, Bloomfield; a step father, Robert C. Reed, Bloomfield; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Payne, Worthington; a step brother, Eddy Reed, U.S. Navy; a half sister, Loretta Pelfree, Bloomington; two step sisters, Melody Trosper and Roberta Duncan, both of Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Nazarene at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Donald Alexander and Rev. Howard Sewell officiating.

Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

*Eddie was born in Bloomington not Worthington.

Survivors include the mother, Mrs, Neva Jean Reed and the stepfather, Robert C. reed, both of Bloomfield; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Payne, Worthington; the great-grandmother, Mrs. Morton Wells, Coal City; a stepbrother, Eddy Reed, serving with the U.S. Navy, and a half sister, Loretta Pelfree, Bloomington.

Edwin was an eigth grade pupil at Central School in Switz City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Worthington Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Donald Alexander and Rev. Howard Sewell officiating.

Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Myers Funeral Home in Worthington.
