John Lindon Dodge, 53, died peacefully in the early morning hours of July 29th, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on September 16th, 1960, to Tom Dodge and Brenda Stinson Dodge. His death was a result of ongoing complications due to a spinal cord injury on May 30th, 1982.

Along with this parents he is survived by his sister, Karen Dodge Hoover and husband Terry of Kingwood, brother, Lowell Dodge and wife Valerie of Midlothian; nieces, Haylee Hoover Douglas and husband Michael of Richmond, VA; Beth Hoover of Richmond, VA; and Brittany Lewis of Midlothian, and nephew, AJ Dodge, of Midlothian, great nephew, Mason Douglas; and great niece, Eva Douglas. Also, aunt. Betty Cook and husband John Cook of Cleburne; uncles Danny Stinson and wife Terry of Arlington, and David Stinson and wife Teri of Joshua; grandmother, Retha Stinson of Keene, and great uncle, Bobby Miller of Arlington, and great aunt Hazel Miller of Ft Worth, numerous cousins, second cousins, and third cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jim "Pops" Stinson, and Raymond Basham, grandmother Juanita “Nita” Basham; cousins Brody Stinson, and Chelsea Hayton; and his faithful canine companion, Fred.

Lindon graduated from Midlothian High School in 1979, attended Blinn College and Mountain View College, and graduated from UTA with a BA in history in 1990. He loved Shakespeare, The Bible, airplanes, guitars, muscle cars, and studying the stars. He was an inaugural fan of “Star Trek” but also never tired of watching “Elvis and Nixon,” “Bubba Ho-Tep,” “O, Brother, Where Art Thou, “Ed Wood,” “JFK,” “Citizen Kane,” and all things W. C. Fields, Andy Griffith, Bela Lugosi, and WWII. He tutored numerous students in English and history, collected guns, watches, daggers, knives, guitars, and samurai swords “of steel folded 1200 times.”
He had many friends, some of the longest-lasting being confidantes, Jimmy Wharton, Robert Murray, Kyle St. Jacques, and Jody Jennings.

The family would like to thank Bristol Hospice nurses and aides for their care during the final weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Christopher and Dana Reeve paralysis research or any charity of choice.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014, at the Midlothian Funeral Home at 3:00 PM with a reception following.
