Samuel 3 May 1784.
August 9th 1795,on Sunday afternoon, about 5 o'clock, Josiah Swearingen departed this life, after a short and painful illness of about 3 or 4 days, aged 51 years, 4 months, and 12 days. July the 6th, 1786, on Monday night, about 12 or l o'clock, Phoebe Swearingen departed this life suddenly in common health, but speechless, aged 28 years, 6 months, and 28 days.

Josiah Swearingen son of Col. Van (Capt.) b March 28, 1744 died Aug 9, 1795 married Phoebe Strode 1757-86, enlisted as a private in Captain Stephenson's company in 1775, later served under General Hand and General McIntosh in the western service where he became Captain.
