An article from Fayetteville NY in 1953 says "Rev Dr. A. L. Baner, minister of First United Methodist Church of Syracuse will be guest preacher for the third Union Lenten Service at 8 P. M., March 16, in the Methodist Church. Mrs. Robert Gwin will direct the choir. Mrs. Thomas A. Price is the organist. Dr. Baner, a native of New Jersey, where he was superintendent of a district in the New Jersey conference before going to Syracuse in 1945, has his undergraduate degree and doctorate from Dickenson College, Carlisle PA. and took his theological training at Drew Theological Seminary, Madison N. J. In Syracuse, he is now serving as President of the Syracuse and Onondaga County Council of Churches, is past chairman of the Civic Lenten Services and is serving in the Central New York Annual Conference on it's World Service and Finance Commission, a four year appointment."
