Philosopher and writer. Marcel created the term existentialism, and made his career as a "Christian Existentialist." His major books include a two-volume work entitled Le mystère de l'être (Mystery of Being; 1951), and Les hommes contre l'humain (Man Against Society; 1951). He also wrote a number of plays.
