On 04 Oct 1919, he married Virginia E. Wellendorf in Chicago. They had one son, John Harold Netterstrom (b. 8 Jun 1921 in Cook Cty). This son enlisted in the Marines under the name John Harold Leims and was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor during WWII for his actions on the island of Iwo Jima.
