Mrs. King Heads 20th Century Club Knitters: Volunteers Work for Red Cross; Home for Friendless Also Fashions Garments: Members of the 20th Century Club, who during 1914-1918 played a vital role in Red Cross work, once more have answered the local chapter's call for volunteers and have appointed Mrs. W. Grant King chairman of their knitting group.
Before and after each of the Wednesday afternoon luncheon meetings, Mrs. King sits at the right of the doorway into the Delaware Avenue clubhouse, dispensing her brown, green and gray wool with needles and knitting instructions to the industrious group.
The first club member to return a finished article to Mrs. King at last week's meeting was Mrs. George E.D. Brady, who had completed a pair of socks.
Others who have signed up for work are: Mesdames Edwin S. Miller, Ivan Hekmian, Charles B. Wheeler, Samuel P. Capen, Robert S. Bassett, Shire Block, Thomas R. Punnett, Nathan J. Higinbotham, Charles K. Bassett, Harold J. Cook, Scott C. Ross, Albert G. Hatch, Henry R. Pottle, Theodore A. Clarke, Sidney R. Kennedy, Albert J. Phinney.
Others Who Are Working: Also Mesdames John G. Wickser, William L. Wettlaufer, Clark L. Ingham, Horace Reed, Frederick H. Williams, Bright C. Taber, Charles Weston, George P. Manning, Theodore L. Richmond, N. Loring Danforth, Maxwell T. Eaton, Arthur L. Lewis, Frederick W. Danforth, William H. Lyons, and the Misses Eleanor Davis, Charlotte P. Sweet, Margaret Mitchell, Ida Robinson, Louise Kimberly, Marcia I. Bassett, Mary Murphy, Eugenie Hauenstein, Catherine Bjorinson, Clara Ulbrich and Sarah McMillen.
Mrs. King also supervises Red Cross knitting at the Home for the Friendless where 22 women have volunteered. If the fact that Mrs. Eugenie Poey, knitting chairman, has completed four pairs of socks is any criterion of the production ability of her fellow inmates, the local Red Cross chapter is fortunate in having procured the Home's services.
The workers include Mesdames Mystis (Myrtis) Lettis, Emma Ellis, Helen Hoover, Frances Brown, Jean Batterson, Emma Schorcht, Elizabeth Ferguson and the Misses Nellie Marr, Kitty Jarrett, Sophronia Keleher, Jennie Bain, Nellie Homer, Mary Reay, Augusta Aldrich, Louise Notiori, Arletta Richmond, Jennie Wilson, and Elizabeth Haynes.
